AIDS Walk Orange County was started in 1985, and has been walked every year since, to raise money to provide critical services for people with the disease and awareness to prevent its spread. Funds are raised by individual walkers and walk teams by soliciting pledges from their friends and colleagues.
Each year, the money raised is distributed among recipient agencies that provide help such as:
There is strength in numbers. For thousands of Orange County residents living with HIV/AIDS, your presence at the Walk is a validation of their worth as members of our society. AIDS Walk Orange County is a day for them to be themselves. A day for them to live without the fear, shame and isolation that still sometimes comes with an HIV diagnosis. And it should be a day for you to be proud of the steps you are taking to help change someones life. A day to take notice of and be thankful for the friends and neighbors around you who share your concern for others in need. And it’s a day to stand up and be counted. A day for thousands of us to show that, contrary to lack of media evidence, we haven’t forgotten that people are still dying from AIDS.
