In 2011, AIDS Walk funds were distributed to nine recipient agencies. All recipient agencies are qualified 501(c)3 organizations. One hundred percent of the funds received by recipient agencies must be used to support the HIV/AIDS community in Orange County and/or HIV prevention programs. Recipient agencies provide a written report detailing how the funds were used.
Below is the list of the 2011 recipient agencies. The 2012 recipient agencies have not yet been determined. Please check back for updated information.
AEGiS
The AIDS Education Global information System is a nonprofit organization that was established in response to the growing HIV/AIDS pandemic. Since AEGiS’ inception, it has evolved into the largest free-access virtual AIDS library on earth. Today, AEGiS consists of more than 1.3 million articles, covering the world from 1981 to the present, and logging more than 19 million visitors annually.
AIDS Services Foundation Orange County (ASF)
Our mission is to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the lives of men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Orange County. This occurs by providing transportation, food, mental services and case management to people living with HIV/AIDS. In addition, ASF performs safe and confidential rapid HIV testing to the county.
The Center Orange County
The Center OC provides HIV outreach, prevention and education, HIV testing and counseling and mental health services for HIV positive individuals.
Mercy House
Emmanuel House is a transitional housing program for homeless individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Orange County, California.
Orange County Cornerstone Outreach
OC Cornerstone Outreach provides physical, financial and psychosocial assistance to those who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. The agency provides food, toiletries, diapers, back-to-school supplies, holiday gifts and programs to promote healing, education and prevention.
Public Law Center (PLC)
The Public Law Center AIDS Legal Assistance Project (ALAP) provides civil legal services to indigent persons living with HIV or AIDS. PLC works closely with AIDS Services Foundation Orange County, various community groups and the Orange County Health Care Agency to assist clients. Client services involve areas such as wills and estate planning, advance health care directives, immigration, bankruptcy, foreclosure, discrimination, employment, health care access and landlord/tenant issues.
Shanti Orange County
Shanti Orange County’s PRISM Integrated Services Management program provides comprehensive health services and emotional support for adults of low-to-moderate income living with HIV/AIDS in Orange County.
Straight Talk Clinic, Inc.
Straight Talk offers a continuum of residential services for HIV/AIDS populations including point of entry from the streets, drug treatment and transitional and permanent housing.
