Around ASF Blog
Volume 1 / Entry 7
March 22, 2012
I’ve been thinking a lot about AIDS Walk Orange County this week. No doubt that’s because our week here at ASF has been filled with walk events and meetings. Monday evening we were hosted by the House of Blues – Anaheim for a “Walk Team Captain/Top Walker” party. Early Wednesday morning, we met with the team at the Disneyland® Resort to take a tour of this year’s walk route and then had a working meeting for another hour or so. And last night, we had our second-to-last 2012 AIDS Walk Steering Committee meeting.
One of the themes that kept coming up all week was “20 percent.” No, this is not some take on last year’s “1% vs. 99%” Occupy Movement. It’s a simple message to our walkers, team captains, corporate sponsors and donors.
AIDS Walk Orange County is looking to increase donations by 20% this year. We are also looking to increase the number of participating walkers by the same percentage.
I raise about $1,100 dollars for the walk last year. That means I need to reset my goal from the $750 I currently have listed to almost double that…$1,320. That, in turn, means I really need to double up on my efforts to raise that money! We are six weeks away! It’s time to get cracking!
I am doing a little better on increasing walkers, though. Last year, I walked as a member of Team ASF, our team at the agency. This year, I started my own team and hoped to get 9 other people to join me. So far, we are a team of three, but that’s 200% more than last year. And I have a few prospects that have told me they will join my team but have not yet done so.
Watch out! Here comes an “ask!”
If you walked last year, try to raise 20% more than you did last year. If you donated last year, try to donate 20% more than you did. And if you have never walked or donated, your registration or donation will help AIDS Walk Orange County achieve its 20% increase. You can register or donate today at www.aidswalkorangecounty.org!
By the way, as of today, AIDS Walk is trending with a 50% increase in teams and walkers over this period last year. And our walkers have raised about 25% more than they did at this point last year. Hopefully that trend will continue and you’ll help us attain our goals!
