Walker Information

Registration Fees
All Walkers for the 2012 AIDS Walk Orange County must be registered! You cannot participate in the walk unless you have registered for the event.

A minimum registration fee of $50 is required. You have the option of either paying the minimum registration fee or fundraising to meet the minimum goal. It’s up to you! However, to participate in the 2012 AIDS Walk Orange County at the Disneyland Resort, you must have raised or donated at least $50.* Select the Standard registration type to pay the $50 minimum upfront, or opt to raise the minimum $50 by selecting the Fundraiser registration type.

While the standard registration fee is $50, many people want to make their own personal pledge in addition to this fee. Your additional support will raise even more money to help people affected by HIV/AIDS in Orange County. To do this, simply select the Standard registration type and include your additiobnal donation where indicated on the form.

Wristbands
Wristbands will be required to participate in AIDS Walk Orange County at the Disneyland Resort. Only those walkers having paid or raised the minimum $50 fee will be issued a wristband. Wristbands can be picked up prior to the walk at a Check-In location. Walkers are required to wear their wristband in order to enter the park on walk day. We apologize that lost or stolen wristbands cannot be replaced.

Early Bird Check-In
This year, AIDS Walk Orange County will offer, and we strongly suggest you take advantage of, Early Bird Check-In. At Early Bird Check-In, you can turn in any offline donations you may have collected and pick up your wristband (and t-shirt, if you’ve earned one). Early Bird Check-In times and location will be posted here as the walk nears.

Day of Event Registration / Prize Distribution
Day of Event Registration, though limited, will open at the site at 6 AM. Walkers who have registered online and who have already submitted all of their offline funds to the walk, either by mail or at Check-In, and who already have their wristband, need not stop at Registration on the day of the event.

If you have offline funds to submit, were unable to attend a Check-In, or if you declined the online registration and fundraising process, you may stop at registration and drop off your donations here. Please note that Day of Event Registration will be very limited. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the online registration process and Check-In procedures.

Walk Length
The 2012 AIDS Walk Orange County is a 5 km (3.2 miles) walk through Disneyland, Disney California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney.

Recommended Prep and Attire
The Walk will begin promptly at 7:00 am. While the 5 km walk does include the portion of the walk from the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure to Disneyland, the opening ceremony will take place at the Main Street Hub inside the park. We recommend preparing to arrive no later than 6:30 am to give yourself time to get into the park. Late arrivals will join the walk midway through at Disney California Adventure. This is an early morning walk. Keeping that in mind, the following is a good starting list to get prepared for the day of the event.

• We recommend Walkers be liberal with sunscreen before leaving for the event and re-apply when necessary at the event.
• A hat or some other protective covering for the head should be worn.
• A light jacket or sweater, that can be removed later in the day, may be necessary for some walkers.
• Walkers will want to have well-worn, comfortable, well-fitting shoes.

What to Bring
Along with your excitement and enthusiasm, here are a few recommendations to bring along on the day of the event.

• Donations! Bring any cash or checks you’ve received that have not been mailed in or turned in at Check-In, along with your completed sponsor/pledge sheet, and turn them in at registration when you arrive.
• Water! Although water stations will be placed strategically throughout the route, it is always a good idea to bring your own bottle and stay hydrated.
• Sunscreen! Even an overcast day can result in a sunburn.
• Friends and Family! Participating with a team can make the day even more fun and special. Please keep in mind that all Walkers must be registered to participate in the event. Registration requires a donation or funds raised totaling at least $50.*

Besides the knowledge that you are helping those in Orange County affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, we want to give you the incentive to raise more funds. Check back for a complete list of incentive prizes.

Other Important Information

• COMPLIMENTARY Parking is available in the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure.
• All participants MUST register prior to walking. If walkers do not register online, or register online after midnight the morning of the walk, proof of registration MUST be provided to receive a wristband at Day of Event Registration.
• All participants MUST post cash and checks online prior to Check-In.
• Walkers, aged three and older, must register and wear a wristband.
• Walkers, aged two and younger, are FREE.
• Walkers must Check-In prior to the event to pick up their Wristband (Walkers are required to wear their wristband in order to participate).
• Limited registration will be available the day of the Walk, but we STRONGLY recommend registering early.
• No one may begin the Walk after 7:30 am. Walkers arriving after 7:30 am will be invited to join the walk in progress midway through at Disney California Adventure Park.
• Video or photography of any kind is prohibited in any “backstage” areas of the Disneyland Resort. “Backstage” refers to any areas not normally open to the public.
• Animals (with the exception of service dogs), roller skates, bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not allowed.
• Stroller and wheelchair rentals will not be available for the Walk. Personal strollers and wheelchairs are allowed.
• All walkers may be subject to security checks before entering.

* Children under the age of 3 do not need to register to participate in AIDS Walk Orange County at the Disneyland Resort. Walkers, ages three and up, must register and wear a wristband.
